Water resistance: Why 100 metres is not necessarily 100 metres.

Oct 26, 2021

Admittedly, the above title is of course very lurid. But when talking about the water resistance of watches, it is indeed the case that the metre indication on the watch does not correspond to the true value of the water resistance.

Rather, this value means the maximum depth that a timepiece can withstand in absolutely calm waters. However, if you move at this depth with the watch on your wrist, the watch can quickly be exposed to greater pressure.

It is therefore advisable to check whether your watch is really suitable for wearing in water. The water resistance of a watch is not a permanent property. It can happen that a watch loses this property after many years and needs to be revised.

To find this out, the following table will help you find out the actual water resistance of your watch.
